Todd Chrisley says that any fans he loses for being affiliated with President Donald Trump never knew him at all.

Todd and his wife, Julie, recently sat down with daughter Savannah for a Nightline interview about being released from jail and having a chance to tell their side of the story in the new Lifetime series, The Chrisleys: Back to Reality.

When asked by ABC News’ Juju Chang how Todd would feel if he heard a fan of his reality show say they can no longer support him because of his association with Trump, the former Chrisley Knows Best star scoffed.

“I don’t think that viewer really ever knew us,” he said of that scenario. “Our family has always been very socially liberal and fiscally conservative.”

“I don’t agree with everything that any president does, or congressman, or senator, reality star, whatever,” Todd added.

However, the controversial reality star admitted that he does feel a sense of gratitude toward Trump.

“I can sit here, because I have been pardoned, and say that I love President Donald J. Trump because he gave me my family back,” Todd, 57, said.

Julie, 52, agreed, adding, “I know not one person that, if President Trump offered them a pardon, would say no.”

While her parents are grateful for Trump granting them a second chance at freedom, it was Savannah who became perhaps the most politicized member of the family during the pardon process.

When Todd and Julie were convicted of tax evasion, wire fraud and conspiracy to commit bank fraud in June 2022 and jailed in January 2023, it pushed their daughter to start engaging with national politics.

Dubbing herself a “MAGA Barbie,” she campaigned on her parents’ behalf and began brushing shoulders with conservative advocates and politicians.

She explained on the Aug. 5 episode of her Unlocked with Savannah Chrisley podcast that one moment in particular — when she held a press conference in the prison parking lot ahead of her father’s release — gave her an exciting taste of how it might feel to be a politician.

“When I was standing outside the prison doing that press conference and seeing all the people who came up to me and hugged me and spoke to me, it really made me take a step back and say, like, ‘Maybe my future’s gonna look different than what I had originally thought. Maybe I am gonna get involved in politics,’ ” she recalled.

Speaking with PEOPLE a few months after her parents’ release, however, Savannah — who just turned 28 — clarified that she isn’t planning to run for office as soon as the 2026 midterms, which would require her to quickly hit the campaign trail.

“I had a meeting at the White House about potentially taking over a House seat in Tennessee, and I just knew that right now wasn’t the time,” Savannah said in August.

“I didn’t feel in my heart and soul that I could make the impact that I truly wanted to make because I just got my life back,” she continued. “I’m rebuilding and figuring out who I am and what I want out of life.”

That doesn’t mean that the younger reality star — who gave a speech on her parents’ behalf at the 2024 Republican National Convention — is giving up on public service.

“I feel like you can implement just as much change on the outside with a very large platform and voice than you can on the inside,” she told PEOPLE. “So, who knows?”

Plus, she pointed out, there will be more opportunities and open seats in the future.

Marsha Blackburn is going to run for governor [of Tennessee] and she will win,” Savannah predicted. “So, who knows what happens to that Senate seat? I just say, like this whole pardon process, everything happens for a reason. Every relationship you make, every hand you shake.”
