Authorities in Michigan arrested a man one day after a woman and her 12-year-old son were found slain in their home.

The victims, identified as 41-year-old Linda Hill and Kardi Jackson, were found dead with traumatic injuries in a Hazel Park, Mich., home, in the late afternoon on Monday, Sept. 1, local police said in a statement.

On Tuesday evening, Sept. 2, Hazel Park police and the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office arrested a suspect from nearby Pontiac while executing a search warrant, per the statement.

Authorities have not publicly named the 43-year-old suspect.

The mother and son reportedly had injuries to their necks, Click on Detroit reported, citing unspecified sources.

Hill’s sister has set up a GoFundMe to assist with funeral costs of the victims.

“Linda was loved by everyone who knew her; she would have given the shirt off her back to help others,” L’Keisha Whitfield wrote in the fundraiser.

“Kardi was the sweetest child, never bothered anyone, always enjoying his video games and spending time with family,” Whitfield added.

Hill’s 21-year-old son and Kardi’s brother Demontez Hill is mourning the young boy.

“He’s like a younger version of me, always playing around and having fun,” Demontez told Click on Detroit.

A former teacher of Kardi’s shared the fundraiser on Facebook, remembering him as a “kind young man.” The school he attended also shared a statement about the killings expressing their condolences.

Demontez told Click On Detroit that he is in shock.

“I don’t even know what would make a person do something like this,” he said.

Police have not announced a possible motive behind the killings but have said they believe there is no danger to the greater community.

In their statement, Hazel Park police stated the man is being detained, though it wasn’t immediately clear what charges he is facing at this time.

An investigation remains ongoing.
