Jordan Chiles couldn’t be more excited to team up with Ezra Sosa!

Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE after the Dancing with the Stars season 34 cast was announced on Wednesday, Sept. 3, the gold medal-winning Olympic gymnast, 24, says she “started screaming like a little kid” when she learned Sosa, also 24, would be her pro partner.

“I was so ecstatic,” she gushes.

“I’m so happy he gets this opportunity and a better experience in a better way, and that he just gets to really showcase who he is,” Chiles adds, referencing Sosa’s celebrity partner for his debut season last year, Anna Delvey. “I was happy that I was gonna be his partner where our energy just matched right away.”

Sosa also shares with PEOPLE how he reacted to being partnered with Chiles this season.

The pro dancer says he felt “relief” when he learned the news, as he reveals, “I was so relieved.”

“It’s like we knew each other,” he says of their instant connection. “It was so weird.”

Sosa was partnered with Delvey on DWTS season 33, a casting decision branded controversial by many fans of the ABC series.

They were the first pair to be eliminated and, when asked what she was taking away from her experience following her live elimination, the convicted con artist shocked the fandom by answering with one word: “Nothing.”

Sosa took it all in stride, debuting a “nothing” tattoo, saying they were keeping in touch via texts and even dressing up as Delvey for Halloween — ankle monitor and all.

Chiles and Sosa both tell PEOPLE they’re excited to show the world what moves they’re cooking up.

Chiles says her experience so far has been “crazy” and “incredible,” and that they’re having “a lot of fun” and “amazing times in rehearsals.”

As for whether Chiles’ Olympic gymnast roots will be an advantage, Sosa teases, “Well, I mean, she can flip, so we’re gonna flip in the dance. We flip and dance, that’s tea.”

Chiles confirms she’s “definitely” going to showcase that talent, with Sosa also promising she’ll bring a level of “sass” to their routines.

“I’m really excited to incorporate that diva of me a little more than I normally do and just being able to incorporate fashion into my outfits and my songs and just, like, the spice back a little,” she says.

At the end of the day, though, Chiles is just ready to let loose and have a blast “whether it’s with a Mirrorball, whether it’s without a Mirrorball.”
