Broke ‘like a potato chip’

Rough go for Reeves.

Keanu Reeves suffered a gruesome onset injury — and it shockingly wasn’t from an action film. The actor opened up about his “Good Fortune” accident in a Hollywood Reporter interview that published Wednesday.

“I snapped my kneecap vertically, like a potato chip. As the pain was coming up, I was like, ‘Oh f–k. This is not good. This is quite bad,’” Reeves, 61, told the outlet. “There was a lot of blood.”

The comedy follows an angel named Gabriel (Reeves) who meddles in the lives of a struggling worker (Aziz Ansari) and a rich venture capitalist (Seth Rogen). Keke Palmer also stars.

“It still feels like something from ‘The Studio,’” Ansari, 42, confessed, referring to Rogen’s Apple TV+ comedy in the joint interview.

The hit series follows the behind-the-scenes chaos in Hollywood.

Rogen, 43, mimicked his character from the show, Matt Remick, frantically stating: “Keanu broke his kneecap! He can’t walk! What can he do? Can we prop him up? Can we hang him from wires? We’ll marionette him in the scene!”

Ansari, who wrote and directed the project, was just grateful that Reeves continued on the film.

“Keanu could have easily been like, ‘Hey man, I’m so sorry. I’m out,’ ” the comedian stated.

Reeves, meanwhile, has previously spoken in depth about his knee injury.

“I was filming a scene with Aziz Ansari and Seth Rogen and we were in a cold plunge,” he said while on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” in July 2024. “I was loving it, I was standing there, and we finish the scene, and you know when you’re cold and you’re [shuffling]? I had a bathing suit and a towel, and you put it over your head and you do the cold shuffle?”

Reeves continued, “I’m doing the cold shuffle in this room that had protective carpets down and then, just here, there was like a little pocket, and my foot got caught in the pocket in the shuffle, and then I went [down], but [my knee] didn’t follow.”

He called what happened next a “slow motion” occurrence.

“I went falling,” Reeves recalled. “My arms came out, but then my knee failed because it’s got some stuff, and I spiked it. And my patella — kneecap — cracked like a potato chip.”

“Comedy’s hard, man,” the action star teased.

In April 2024, Ansari addressed the accident while at CinemaCon.

The comic called his co-star “such a trooper” following his knee injury.

“He still filmed everything except some scenes where he needed him to do salsa dancing, which we need to pick up,” Ansari recounted. “He was like, ‘I’ll do it!’ We’re like, ‘Keanu, calm down. We’ll do the salsa dancing once your knee’s healed.’ “

The “Parks and Recreation” alum also noted that Reeves has completed many extreme stunts without needing “to go to the hospital or anything.”

“He’s done those ‘Wick’ movies, all the ‘Matrix’ stuff. In ‘Speed,’ he actually did attempt to do the jump from the car to the bus,” Ansari detailed. “It wasn’t the take they used, but he did do it.”

Meanwhile, in December, Reeves shared with CBS News that his body might not be able to handle the physical toll of doing “John Wick 5.”

“You can never say never — but my knees right now are saying, ‘You can’t do another John Wick,’” he elaborated. “So my heart [wants to], but I don’t know if my knees can do it.”

Reeves starred as the iconic assassin in four films from 2014 to 2023. He also reprised the role in the 2025 spinoff “Ballerina” alongside Ana de Armas.

Reeves previously told Entertainment Weekly in 2023 about a fifth film: “I don’t know, I guess I’m going to have to lean on never say never.”
