Sheinelle Jones’ ‘Today’ return date revealed after husband’s death
Sheinelle Jones is making her TV comeback.
The beloved correspondent, 47, will return to the third hour of “Today” on Friday, September 5, for the first time since her husband’s shocking death.
Uche Ojeh — full name Uchechukwuka Adenola Ojeh — passed away on May 23 following a private battle with brain cancer. He was 45.
Jones’ friend and co-star Savannah Guthrie announced the date of her return during Tuesday’s program.
“This Friday, our beloved Sheinelle will be returning to the show,” Guthrie, 53, shared.
The NBC program revealed that Jones will “share a deeply personal interview” with Guthrie “in which she opens up about how she and her children are grieving the loss of their father, why she calls her experience a ‘beautiful nightmare’ and her message of hope for anyone facing their own struggles.”
Jones revealed she was stepping back from the show for an extended time in January, citing a personal situation. Her last appearance on “Today” was in December 2024.
“Hi everybody….I sincerely appreciate all of you who have reached out while I’ve been absent from the show,” she wrote via Instagram. “I want to share with you that I’m taking time to deal with a family health matter.”
“I sincerely appreciate all of you who have reached out while I’ve been absent from the show. I want to share with you that I’m taking time to deal with a family health matter,” the news anchor added.
In May, Guthrie was tasked with announcing Ojeh’s death on air.
“With profound sadness, we share this morning that Uche Ojeh, the husband of our friend and Today co-host Sheinelle Jones, has passed away after a courageous battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma,” she told viewers as she fought back tears.
“There are no words for the pain we feel for Sheinelle and their three young children. Uche was an incredible person,” Guthrie continued. “We all loved him. And so we want to take a moment to tell you more about the remarkable man who was Sheinelle’s perfect partner in life.”
Sources told The Post that Ojeh put up a “brave fight” and was in hospice before his passing.
Jones has largely stayed silent about her husband’s death, only reposting the emotional “Today” show about his passing on May 23.
“Thank you, for all of your love and support. ❤️,” she captioned the clip.
Jones reunited with her “Today” co-stars at Ojeh’s funeral in New York on May 30.
Guthrie, Al Roker, Deborah Roberts, Jenna Bush Hager, Hoda Kotb, and Craig Melvin were all photographed exiting the church following the service.
Both Roker and Dylan Dreyer spoke out to share their support for Jones in the wake of her husband’s death.
“She’s such a close friend to me and I still don’t have the words. I don’t know what to say,” Dreyer told Us Weekly the day before his funeral. “I’ve reached out. I don’t want to push too hard. There’s just a lot of things that she must be juggling right now. I mean, I don’t know the right words besides, ‘I’m here. Whenever you need a hug, let me know. I’ll be there in a second.’ And, I mean, I pray for every night.”
Roker added: “We tend to say, ‘Oh, I know what you’re going through. I know what you’re feeling.’ Nobody knows unless you’ve actually been in that. So, we’re there. We just want to be there and pay tribute to the wonderful person that Uche was and still will be because he’s going to live on in those kids and live in all our memories.”
Jones and Ojeh tied the knot in 2007 and would have celebrated 18 years of marriage on September 1.
They shared three children: Kaylin, 16, and twins Clara and Uche, 13.
