Rudy Giuliani‘s son, Andrew, thanked supporters for their prayers after a serious car accident left his father hospitalized over the holiday weekend.
Andrew, 39, posted to X on Sunday, Aug. 31, a day after the former New York City mayor’s head of security, Michael Ragusa, shared a statement on Instagram, revealing that Giuliani, 81, was involved in an incident on a New Hampshire highway.
“Thank you to all the people that have reached out since learning the news about my Father. Your prayers mean the world,” he wrote. “As a son, I can tell you I’m honored to have a Dad that I can call the toughest SOB I’ve ever seen!”
Andrew is the eldest child and only son of Giuliani and his second wife, Donna Hanover. He currently works for the Trump administration as Executive Director of the White House Task Force for the FIFA World Cup 2026.

In Ragusa’s statement, he said that prior to the accident, Giuliani “was flagged down by a woman who was the victim of a domestic violence incident” while on the highway and “immediately rendered assistance and contacted 911.”
“He remained on scene until responding officers arrived to ensure her safety. Following this, while traveling on the highway, Mayor Giuliani’s vehicle was struck from behind at high speed,” the statement continued.
Ragusa said the politician “was transported to a nearby trauma center, where he was diagnosed with a fractured thoracic vertebrae, multiple lacerations and contusions, as well as injuries to his left arm and lower leg.”
In a statement on Facebook, New Hampshire State Police said they were “investigating a reported domestic violence incident on Interstate 93 southbound in Manchester when a two-vehicle crash occurred across from them on the northbound side of the interstate.”
“As a result of the collision, both vehicles went into the median and were heavily damaged,” the statement continued. “Troopers and fire personnel, who were at the scene of the first incident, witnessed the collision and quickly crossed the interstate to render aid.”
This latest accident comes a year after Giuliani was seen falling to the floor at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.
In a statement shared with PEOPLE at the time, Giuliani spokesperson Ted Goodman said, “Mayor Rudy Giuliani appreciates everyone’s concern after tripping over a dip in the walkway on the convention floor of the convention.”
“Those falsely suggesting anything else are misleading the public for their own agendas. Anyone who wants to question Mayor Giuliani’s stamina or abilities should check out the half dozen interviews he had just completed before coming over to the convention floor,” the statement continued. “The mayor immediately stood up and continued with his jam-packed schedule, collecting video footage and talking with reporters.”

Giuliani’s business partner, identified by the New York Post as Maria Ryan, arrived at the New Hampshire hospital soon after the car accident to “oversee his care.” Ryan is also a nurse, the outlet said.
“He’s getting further tests and stabilization of his injuries,” Ryan told the Post.
Ragusa added that the former Associate Attorney General is expected to be hospitalized for two or three days, and he will then wear a brace for his broken vertebrae.
“The mayor is in great spirits. He’s a beast. He survived 9/11,” Ragusa said, referencing Giuliani’s tenure as mayor of New York City from 1994 to 2001.
