MLB Wednesday picks, odds, bets

To steal a line from Yankees manager Aaron Boone, “It is all in front” of the New York Mets.

Squaring off against the division-rival Phillies, who stand clear in first place, the Mets are looking to make a dent in their NL East deficit.

The Mets turn to rookie Nolan McLean, who has been a godsend to the rotation, to score a big-time win.

Carlos Mendoza’s group could right a lot of season wrongs with a victory on Wednesday when it faces an old friend, Taijuan Walker.

Walker has enjoyed a rebound season in Philadelphia, pitching to a 3.44 ERA after being one of the worst pitchers in the majors last season.

Walker has enjoyed an uptick in velocity on his fastball this season after being down dramatically in 2024 (91.7 mph vs. 92.2 in 2025).

There’s no book on McLean yet, so with the Phillies getting their first peek, I suspect it could be a rough night for them.

McLean dominated the Braves last time out and was excellent in his debut against the contending Mariners.

Does McLean have the moxie to come up big under the bright lights? It certainly seems that way.

Target the Mets to win on Wednesday, and depending on the opening line, target Pete Alonso to go deep.

He is 5-for-18 against Walker in his career with two home runs, and could get right on Wednesday after struggling recently.

The plays: Mets -142 moneyline; Alonso home run (+320 or better).
