Lil Wayne talks Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce engagement mid-concert
Maybe Lil Wayne is a Swiftie after all.
The “Lollipop” rapper, 42, abruptly stopped his concert in Kansas City, Missouri, on Tuesday to celebrate Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s engagement news.
“I’m dressed in spirit,” Wayne, sporting a black cardigan, began in a TikTok video of the moment. “In the spirit of my man Travis and my girl, you already know Taylor.”
“Traylor! That’s what we call them,” he continued. “Congratulations.”
The “Love Me” rapper then proceeded to show off his ensemble, which has become a Swiftie staple since the 14-time Grammy winner released the track “Cardigan” on her 2020 album “Folklore.”
Wayne’s excitement for Swift and Kelce’s engagement came as a surprise, particularly because the “Tha Carter” artist trashed the NFL team Kelce plays for in a fiery social media post earlier this year.
“I hate the cheating azz chiefs,” Wayne wrote on X after the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Houston Texans in a playoff game on Jan. 18.
“It’s not even impressive when u cheat and then clearly try to cheat,” the rapper tweeted in a second post at the time. “Just win baby.”
Kelce and his brother, retired Philadelphia Eagles defenseman Jason Kelce, later responded to Wayne’s “cheating azz” remarks during the Jan. 22 episode of their popular “New Heights” podcast.
“The whole world was talking about something else during the game, and I’m sure you saw some of this, but they were complaining about the refs again, Trav,” Jason began.
“Even Lil Wayne,” he continued. “Lil Wayne said, ‘I hate the cheating azz Chiefs.’ So an ass with two z’s.”
Swift and Travis sent Swifties and Chiefs fans into a frenzy on Tuesday when they officially announced their engagement after two years of dating in a joint Instagram post.
“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” Swift, 35, wrote alongside a sweet photo of Travis, also 35, down on one knee in a colorful garden of red, white and pink flowers.
Another snap showed the “Love Story” singer’s shiny engagement ring, which Page Six reported is an old mine brilliant-cut diamond in a gold bezel setting that her new fiancé designed himself.
Wayne, however, wasn’t the only one to stop what they were doing after Swift and Kelce’s engagement was announced.
CBS News reporter Olivia Rinaldi went viral for her shocked reaction to the engagement news while on live television.
“Taylor Swift is engaged… Taylor Swift is engaged!” Rinaldi exclaimed while broadcasting outside the White House.
“This is a very important moment for me in my professional career,” she continued. “Because I get to announce that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are engaged.”
Several A-listers couldn’t help but react to the news as well.
“It’s time to call in the ultimate wedding planner,” Martha Stewart captioned an Instagram post.
“When you hear the happiest news at the happiest place on earth,” John Stamos and Josh Gad added while at Disneyland.
“Guys, we’re trying to concentrate and do work here and Taylor Swift got engaged and it’s very exciting,” Reese Witherspoon said in a video posted to her Instagram Stories.
