Jenna Bush Hager Admits Her Husband Wore “A Little Makeup” When He Guest Hosted ‘Today’: “He Did Look Quite Handsome”

Jenna Bush Hager and Willie Geist debated a hot topic while co-hosting Today With Jenna & Friends Wednesday: Whether or not grooms should wear makeup on their wedding day.

After Geist admitted the thought “never even crossed my mind” on his wedding day in Puerto Rico, Bush Hager noted that her husband, Henry Hager, opted to wear makeup when he guest hosted Today With Jenna & Friends in March.

“I will say when Henry was on the show he did wear a little makeup and he did look quite handsome its good for the complexion,” she said.

Geist appeared to understand why he would change his mind about wearing makeup on television. “Here’s the thing about this job. You can say, ‘I don’t wear makeup I’m a dude.’ But the first time you see yourself with all these bright lights you’ll go, ‘Whoa I look like a ghost,’” he said.

Bush Hager shared that her husband changed his mind after filming one portion of the show without wearing makeup. “He did one thing without makeup and he regretted it,” she revealed.

Geist then joked that there is a “type of handsome celebrity” who can go without makeup when visiting Today.

“This type of handsome celebrity when asked do you want a little bit off makeup and they go, ‘Nah,’” he said. “And it’s like, ‘God did my makeup. I don’t need makeup.’ And I won’t name names.”

Geist ultimately admitted he also prefers to go for a “light touch” of makeup when hosting the show.

Geist has returned to guest host Today With Jenna & Friends multiple times recently, resulting in several hilarious moments with Bush Hager. Most recently, Bush Hager left Geist shocked after she cursed on the air, claiming that she thought she was “allowed to say it one time.” 

During an episode in July, Bush Hager recounted her first time meeting Geist’s wife, Christina. “I remember I wanted to meet [Christina] and she came because you told me that Christina goes, – I don’t know if you can say this – but he’s like, ‘God, [our son] George is acting like an asshole,’” Bush Hager shared.

Geist appeared shocked as he informed her, “You can’t say that, you can’t say it.”

He then pushed back at her claim. “I’m looking at you like why did you say that,” he said. “I’d like to go on the record that my wife never said such a thing about my precious three-year-old son.”
