In fact, Kelce, 35, gave specific insight into what his marriage to Swift, 35, would look like in a GQ interview that was published exactly two weeks before the proposal news.
The NFL superstar explained that, despite his parents Ed and Donna Kelce’s divorce, he’s hopeful he’ll have a relationship that lasts.
“The handful of my friends whose parents are still together and still thriving — those are situations I would love to have,” Kelce stated.
“Not that I think my parents dealt with it the wrong way or anything like that,” he said. “It’s more so, if we’re gonna start this and do it, why not try and do it to last forever? Not just in a ‘It’s just for the kids’ aspect.”
Ed, 74, and Donna, 72, who also share son Jason, 37, were married for 25 years before they went their separate ways. Their sons just graduated college at the time of the divorce.
In the GQ interview, the reporter reminded Kelce that he once said in an interview that his ideal partner would have the same qualities as his mom, and asked the football player if Swift and Donna are similar.
“Their kindness, their genuineness, their ability to say hello to everyone in the room,” Kelce answered. “Their ability to show love and support no matter what. And on top of that, their work ethic.”
“I saw my mother reach goals that she had set for herself, go from being a teller to working all the way up in the KeyBank building,” he continued, adding of Swift, “I’ve seen Taylor do the exact same thing of setting goals for herself and exceeding the expectations and really captivating the world in that regard.”
Kelce also told the outlet that he and Swift have a “regular” romance.
“When there is not a camera on us, we’re just two people that are in love,” he said. “It can be perceived as something else because of how much it is talked about and how much we are tracked whenever we do go out, but I would say that it’s as normal of…. It happened very organically even though from a media standpoint it was being tracked. It still happened very organically.”
Swift, for her part, talked about her desire to get married and more back in 2012.
“Being a mom full-time, doing everything for my kids, having a bunch of them. One day, I’m sure,” she told Cosmopolitan.
The Grammy winner has also written lyrics about marriage in her songs “Lover,” “Paper Rings,” “Love Story,” “Starlight,” “So High School,” How You Get the Girl” and more.
Swift announced her engagement to the Kansas Chiefs tight end with stunning Instagram photos of her engagement ring and Kelce down on one knee.
“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” she wrote.
The couple were first linked in 2023. That September, Swift attended her first Chiefs game at Arrowhead Stadium. Kelce, in turn, showed up to several of Swift’s Eras Tour shows as their romance continued to heat up through 2024.
Earlier this month, Swift made her first-ever podcast appearance on “New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce,” where she announced her new album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” out Oct. 3.
