Reggie Carroll, a comedian known for his touring stand-up routines across the country, has died. He was 52.

Carroll was shot in Southaven, Miss., on Wednesday, Aug. 20, according to the Southaven Police Department (SPD).

Authorities said in a statement shared on social media that they were called to the city’s Burton Lane after receiving reports of a shooting.

On the scene, authorities said officers and medical personnel “provided life-saving techniques, but the individual succumbed to his injuries.”

“One male is in custody and has been charged with the murder of Reginald Carroll. Our thoughts [are] with the family of Mr. Carroll,” police added in an update on Saturday, Aug. 23. “Thank you to the community for their patience and understanding.”

The investigation remains ongoing.

In addition to his stand-up comedy, Carroll made a number of television appearances over the years, according to his IMDb page.

One included a 2000 episode of the variety series Showtime at the Apollo, and he also produced and hosted the 2023 standup special Knockout Kings of Comedy.

The Baltimore native often worked alongside Mo’Nique. In an Instagram Stories post, the actress, 57, called Carroll her “brother in comedy,” per Deadline.

“This is why I say treat people the best you can because you never know if you’ll get a chance to see them again, and the last time me and my brother Reggie, girl, was together,” the Precious star wrote.

Added Mo’Nique: “That’s what it was, an amazing time, being on tour together, being on that road together, what a time, so I have no sad tears because all of our time together was amazing.”

In a Facebook post, Carroll’s brother Jonathan Carroll thanked friends, family and fans for their support amid the tragedy.

“To all who have expressed condolences on the passing of Reggie Carroll, your love has been well received — thank you!!!” he wrote, in part.

Club Mobtown Comedy also paid tribute to Carroll through an Instagram post shared on Aug. 23.

“🕊️Rest in power @comedianreggiecarroll, thank you for being one of the OGs who supported us early on,” the club’s account wrote. “The Mobtown family and the Baltimore comedy community are very saddened by this loss of one of our city’s great talents. Sending our prayers to Reggie’s family 🙏🏽🙏🏽.”
