“They said as soon as you see them, everything that you thought mattered just goes out the window,” Brittney told CBS Sports about seeing her little boy for the first time. “That’s literally what happened.”

Though the Atlanta Dream center is often on the road for work, she prioritizes staying in touch with her family. The professional basketball player enjoys sharing photos of her FaceTime calls with Bash on Instagram. When she is in town, the former longtime Phoenix Mercury player keeps him close to her, on and off the court.

Here’s everything to know about Brittney Griner’s son, Bash.

The couple revealed that they were starting their own family on April 13, 2024.

“Can’t believe we’re less than three months away from meeting our favorite human being,” Cherelle captioned a photo of their sonogram images on Instagram.

One month later, Brittney shared pictures from their baby shower, which appeared to be teddy bear-themed and in time for a special holiday.

“This Mother’s Day is hitting a little different as I watch my beautiful wife create life 🥹,” the athlete wrote. “Happy 1st of many Mother’s Day baby, I love you! & Happy Mother’s Day to my Mother in law. You created one spectacular woman that I get to share and cherish life with, thank you 🤍.”

Brittney casually mentioned that she had already become a parent while speaking to CBS Sports. During the conversation, the WNBA star announced the birth of her son and shared that she wanted the baby to call her “Pops.”

“Well, I mean, I guess I’ll just drop it. He’s here,” she admitted, adding that he was born on July 8, 2024, and weighed 7 lbs., 8 oz.

Later that same day, Brittney revealed the name they chose: Bash Raymond. (Notably, her dad’s name is Raymond, too.)

“Baby’s here. Baby Bash got here,” she told NBC Nightly News. “Every minute, I feel like he’s popping in my head. I’m thinking about him. It’s like, I can hear him sometimes. I feel like I can smell him. It’s just — my world changed.”

Brittney and Cherelle shared Bash’s first photos on Nov. 26, 2024 — just two days before Thanksgiving.

“Family shoots have become a team effort around here,” Cherelle told CBS Mornings. “It’s a series of smiles, tears, feeding and naps. We love every second and can’t wait to take our first Christmas picture as a family.”

The pictures showed the proud parents holding their baby boy, who donned a little skeleton onesie with his hunter-green nursery in the background.

“Bash may have the best room in the house,” Brittney wrote beside the same photos when she shared them on Instagram one day later. “Relle and I both fall asleep with Bash at night in that chair. We love every detail from his amazing book wall collection to his comfortable crib! He sleeps like a big man in his room alone.”

In a June 2025 press conference, Bash made his post-game debut, where he sat on Brittney’s lap and played with a Hot Wheels car. When asked what keeps her going, she said her motivation was, of course, her son.

“He’s my why,” Brittney said. “It was starting to get to a point where I was like, what is my why? Honestly, and then he came along and yeah, he’s my why.”

She continued, “Like everything I do is for him. I’ll be proud of him once he’s able to really realize everything. … I do it for him, want to provide for him and show him the right way to do things.”

Bash was born right before Brittney had to jet off to Paris for the 2024 Olympics, and while she was thrilled to represent Team USA for the third time, she struggled with the quick turnaround.

“It is hard leaving,” she told NBC Nightly News. “But at the same time, he’s going to grow up in a sports family, so he’s going to understand. I think right now, all he’s really worried about is just sleeping and milk time.”

As Brittney dedicates herself to basketball, she credits Cherelle with ensuring Bash always has the support he needs at home.

“My wife is really being a trooper, taking on a lot of the load so I can get settled and get ready for basketball,” she told ESPN in January 2025. “But this is the best thing that has ever happened in my life. I feel like something was missing in my offseason; I wanted to go back to working year-round.”

He is already becoming a little superstar

Bash is quickly becoming a fan favorite after joining his parents in the spotlight. He joined Brittney for her Atlanta Dream media day in February 2025, posing in a tiny jersey with a basketball.

In May 2025, he made his first red carpet appearance with Cherelle when she was named a member of Marie Claire’s Power Moms list.

“Thank you @marieclairemag and @momsfirstus for recognizing the power of Motherhood. The evening was stunning! Honored to share it with my son and beautiful mom ☺️,” Cherelle wrote on Instagram.

“We operate in this power to show our children — sons and daughters alike — that success and love, ambition and nurture, are not opposites,” she added. “They are partners.”
