Francisco Alvarez exits Mets game early with hand injury
Francisco Alvarez exited Sunday’s game against the Mariners in the eighth inning after he appeared to injure his hand while sliding into second base in the bottom of the seventh.
The Mets’ catcher was sliding headfirst at full speed into second base when the injury occurred and immediately started holding his thumb after getting up.

Alvarez stayed in the game and even reached third base, but he was pulled after Cedric Mullins recorded the third out and the Mets were headed back out into the field.
Luis Torrens took over behind the plate.
The Mets were leading the Mariners, 7-3, at the time they decided to pull him out of the Little League Classic.
