Dr. Terry Dubrow Admits He Was “P***ed” When Wife Heather Dubrow Outed Him For Wearing Shoe Lifts: “I Could Feel Acid In My Blood For About Five Minutes”

The Summer I Turned Pretty? More like, The Summer I Found Out How Many Men On Bravo Aren’t As Tall As They Seem. Not long after Jax Taylor was outed by internet sleuths for wearing shoe lifts to The Valley‘s seated reunion, Heather Dubrow conveniently disclosed at a cast dinner in a recent episode of The Real Housewives of Orange County that her husband, Dr. Terry Dubrow of Botched and Botched Presents: Plastic Surgery Rewind, does the same—a revelation he didn’t know she had made until the episode dropped earlier this month.

“To be perfectly honest with you, I was a little bit pissed,” Terry told Decider at his wife’s Champs Event at The Four Seasons in Midtown Manhattan last week. “I could feel acid in my blood for about five minutes. I texted [her] and I went, ‘Really?’ She goes, ‘Oh, whatever.’ I go, ‘Oh, whatever?!’”

The renowned plastic surgeon—who’s been married to Heather for nearly three decades—clearly wasn’t thrilled when he watched the episode back, but he promised he has “nothing to hide” as he flashed his elevated shoes at the camera. “I mean, I’m really not short. I’m 5’11”, but it makes me, like, 6’1”, which is kind of sexy and good,” he joked.

While Heather has been busy promoting the new season of RHOC, Terry has also had his hands full with the release of Botched Presents: Plastic Surgery Rewind, which gives celebrities and influencers the opportunity to reverse their cosmetic procedures if they so choose.

Like any reality show, this one has drama—both on-screen and off-screen. For eight seasons of Botched, Dr. Paul Nassif was Terry’s right-hand man, and it sounds like his feelings might’ve been hurt when Terry instead teamed up with body image expert Dr. Spirit for the E! spinoff.

“I don’t think he’s that happy about it, to be honest with you. For a period of time, he wasn’t really talking to me,” Terry revealed. “But we’re in talks now to do sort of a new version of Botched, and I think he’s getting over it.”

When we caught up with Terry, he also spoke about Lindsay Lohan‘s glowing new look, whether Botched will ever return for Season 9, and why people should be “microdosing” GLP-1s. Check out the full interview below.

DECIDER: What did you think of Heather outing you for wearing shoe lifts? And did you ever think you’d have something in common with Jax Taylor?

DR. TERRY DUBROW: [I was] so pissed! I said to her, “OK. Has the gauntlet been thrown down? Am I going to out you for the things that only I know about?” I actually looked at her and I said, “Why?” I mean, I’m really not short. I’m 5’11”, but it makes me, like, 6’1”, which is kind of sexy and good. I thought it was weird. To be perfectly honest with you, I was a little bit pissed. I really was. I could feel acid in my blood for about five minutes. I texted [her] and I went, “Really?” She goes, “Oh, whatever.” I go, “Oh, whatever?!”

Did she give you a warning that that would be coming out? Or did you find out with the rest of the world?

No. By the way, I think she was probably four champagne glasses in when she disclosed that. But I think it’s funny. I have nothing to hide. Yes, there it is. There might be another inch and a half in here. So what did I say to her? I said, “Bitch,” is what I said. So, Jax does that, too?

Yes! He was outed for wearing lifts at a seated reunion.

I don’t really know Jax. I’ve never met him, but I don’t necessarily want to be, certainly lately, put in the same category as Jax. He’s trying to work his life out. I’ve worked my life out. I think I’m good, but whatever. She busted me. What else are you going to bust me for? The nose job I had? Oh, no, she can’t, because I put that on the Housewives. So, whatever.

We’ve been loving Plastic Surgery Rewind. What was the best part of getting to work on that show?

Botched was sort of my life’s dream. It was the ability to show the other side of plastic surgery, because so many people want to say plastic surgery is so wonderful and celebrities are so into disclosing right now and they’re so transparent about their plastic surgery, but they’re not really telling the other side of it, where a lot of people ultimately regret it. When you look at Kylie Jenner, Kylie Jenner said, “Oh, my doctor was this [person], I did 400 cc’s under the muscle.” But two years earlier, she said it was the biggest regret of her life. So what I love about Rewind is that it was the next logical step after Botched because it talks about, “OK, if you’re going to make a big decision to change your body, what does it mean for you 10 years from now? Are you writing a check that your future self doesn’t want you to cash?” It really opens up that whole discussion about, “What are you signing on to when you have plastic surgery? What may your future self say? And how hard is it to rewind?” Because it’s not easy. It’s really high-risk revisional surgery. Even though you didn’t have a complication, it’s hard to take that stuff away. I love the fact that the show really explores it. And I thought these celebrities, to be honest with you, were really brave and really exposed themselves to very significant criticism. And so I was really happy to be part of that show.

There’s a lot of talk on the show about going au natural and there’s one person who’s been in the news cycle lately who just looks amazing and that’s Lindsay Lohan. What do you think of her glowing new look? Is she drinking a lot of water? Or do you think she’s gotten some work done? What’s your take as a professional?

I don’t know. I have no clinical knowledge of what she has or has not done, but I have followed her career. I’ve been a fan. A buddy of mine directed her film Freaky Friday. Was she in Mean Girls, too? She was! My buddy, Mark Waters, directed [those movies]. So, I’ve been a fan and observer of Lindsay Lohan’s career and the trouble she’s had. She looks, let’s be honest, better than she’s ever looked in her life. So whatever she’s doing is great. If it is plastic surgery, it’s very well-executed plastic surgery and I endorse it. But again, I don’t think she’s really talking about whether it’s plastic surgery or not. And that’s her right. Celebrities don’t have to disclose their private medical information. So whatever she’s doing is wonderful.

I have to know – is Dr. Nassif jealous of your new work wife Dr. Spirit?

I don’t think he’s that happy about it, to be honest with you. For a period of time, he wasn’t really talking to me. But we’re in talks now to do sort of a new version of Botched, and I think he’s getting over it. But I love him. This was just something that I was involved with. But he’s a wonderful plastic surgeon, and he’s talking to me again, so I’m happy about that.

Is he upset that he wasn’t asked to be a part of this show?

This show is not really plastic surgery heavy. This is more therapy heavy … He’s a very gifted plastic surgeon. This is more of an explanation type show, although the surgery was very difficult, but I think very successful. But yeah. No, it’s all good.

You mentioned a potential new version of Botched. Are we ever going to get another season of the original show?

Maybe. Of all the things I’ve done in my career, whether it’s my medical legal career, whether it’s being on a reality show with my wife, Botched has been the most significant, important and the biggest message I’ve put out there about cautionary plastic surgery. It was the No. 1 show on E! last time I looked, and it was the No. 1 show for a while on Netflix when they showed the first two seasons. So, I think Botched is still alive, and I’m excited potentially to do maybe even a new version of Botched

You’re a big advocate of GLP-1s. Can you tell me a bit about that?

I’m very much focused on these historic new generation of medications designed to help with obesity, but they go so far beyond obesity. The general category is called GLP-1s, and they’re hormones that you naturally make in your intestines, and they’re designed to control sugar and to control your appetite. That’s what they do – control sugar, make your insulin more sensitive, and control your appetite. But they go so much beyond simple weight loss, which in and of itself is the No. 1 risk factor for all causes of mortality – cancer, diabetes, neurodegenerative disorders and heart disease. I believe what’s not being talked about enough – and it is being talked about on TikTok, which is weird that TikTok knows about it, but the general public doesn’t really understand – that these GLP-1 medications are probably the greatest thing for general longevity. They’re good for perimenopausal problems, they’re good for heart disease, cancer. These are based on studies that are in the New England Journal of Medicine, in JAMA. So, this is not just a doctor or some people on TikTok saying, “I think it’s good for this.” This is hardcore science, and I think it’s about to be discovered as the single most important medical breakthrough that even if you don’t have any need for weight loss, you probably should be on a low dose called microdosing. TikTok knows about microdosing, but the general public doesn’t. TikTok is pretty brilliant. People, I think, should be on a low dose version of these drugs just for all the things that ail them, and so it’s all about the reduction of inflammation through control of sugar. That’s something that we need to talk about, needs to be explored. And I hope somebody in the media blows this up.

Getting rid of the stigma around weight loss drugs!

Yes. This whole thing about, “Oh, they lost weight because they’re on Ozempic.” Shut up. It’s controlling the risk factors for the No. 1 causes of mortality, death, aging and disease. That’s what we’re talking about. So let’s talk about it. Let’s blow it up. And everybody should be exploring it. And a lot of people should be microdosing it.
