Brandon Smith’s ‘long road’ from front desk at gym to Jets

All the familiar faces that came through the door and saw Brandon Smith working at the front desk of his local Club4 Fitness asked the same question.

Hidden subtext and all.

“One thing I had to deal with, they were saying, ‘Hey, how are you doing?’ But it was kind of like a, ‘What happened?’ instead of ‘How’s everything going?’ ” Smith told The Post. “I had to re-wire myself and not let that get to me. Of course, I know where I was — in the NFL — and I’m at the front desk at a gym. That wasn’t the plan at all, but I used it as motivation.”

About 18 months after his final night shift for slightly above minimum wage in Horn Lake, Miss., Smith is having one of the best performances of any player at Jets training camp.
