Nolan McLean’s impressive MLB debut leaves Mets wanting more

You know what you would want if you were the Mets and watched Nolan McLean’s MLB debut?

More.

McLean offered a wonderful appetizer of possibilities. He brought his thick reservoir of pitches, notably a prime Charlie Mortonesque penchant to spin a ball at an otherworldly rate to get back into a count. He showed he could win in the strike zone and seduce outside it. The righty exhibited his well-recognized athleticism with a defensive play of the game that unified quick reflexes with flair. And he sure didn’t look like he had any buckle in front of 42,978 at Citi Field hungering for a reason to believe that McLean’s first outing could serve not just as a wonderful beginning for him, but as a beachhead against two-plus months now of dreadful Mets performance — notably out of the rotation.

“The situation did not seem too big for him,” Carlos Mendoza praised.
