‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood’ Episode 3 Ends With ‘Outlander’s Latest Mind-Bending Twist: “Is That Incest?”

Outlander: Blood of My Blood Episode 3 “School of the Moon” ends with one character making a desperate decision that could have insane ramifications for the larger MacKenzie/Fraser family tree.

We learned in the very first episode of the new Starz show that Claire’s (Caitriona Balfe) parents Julia (Hermione Corfield) and Henry (Jeremy Irvine) didn’t die in a car crash as we have long believed. Instead, they both went back in time through the stones at Craigh na Dun. However, that’s not the only twist. As it happens, Claire’s mom was pregnant with her unborn sibling.

So what happens to that baby? Well, Julia goes to extreme lengths to protect her child in Outlander: Blood of My Blood...

**Spoilers for Outlander: Blood of My Blood Episode 3 “School of the Moon,” now streaming on STARZ**

To keep herself and her baby safe, Julia seduces the lecherous Lord Lovat (Tony Curran) so that he will believe he is the father of her child. She will not be turned out of Castle Leathers or abused for her pregnancy. Instead, she will ensure that her kid gets the safety and security that Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy) has gotten.

Of course, this means that Outlander: Blood of My Blood Episode 3 ends with Claire’s mother sleeping with Jamie’s (Sam Heughan) grandfather!

“Oh, gosh. I didn’t know if I’d ever joined those dots before, which is mad!” Hermione Corfield said when we asked her about this mind-melting match.

“Is that incest?” she wondered, her hand on her chin. “No, not quite.”

Julia is lost and alone in 1714. She has been kidnapped and sold into servitude by the first people she finds. For the first three episodes of Outlander: Blood of My Blood, she has been dodging the advances of Lord Lovat with the help of housekeeper Davina Porter (Sara Vickers), Brian Fraser, and Murtagh (Rory Alexander).

However, when Davina figures out that Julia is pregnant, she’s put in danger. If Lord Lovat discovers that his maid is knocked up, it’s cause to turn her out, or even worse.

Realizing that Lord Lovat not only kept Davina on after impregnating her, but also acknowledged Brian as his own bastard, Julia realizes that the easiest solution is to seduce Lord Lovat to make him think the baby is his.

“I think she does it because she is at the point of desperation,” Corfield said. “It’s either the baby or it’s doing that…she’s got to convince Lovat that the child is his.”

“And I think she sees no way out. It’s not really for her own survival or protection. It’s actually for the child.”

So will Julia’s plan work? Will she save Claire’s mystery sibling by hooking up with Lord Lovat? Is there a Fraser we’ve met before who is actually a Beauchamp? How much more complicated can Claire and Jamie’s family tree get?

We’ll have to stay glued to Outlander: Blood of My Blood to find out what happens next…
