Trump vows main goal of Putin Alaska summit is a push for cease-fire: Zelensky


Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Wednesday that President Trump assured him that his main goal in meeting Russian leader Vladimir Putin this week is to push for a cease-fire.

Zelensky revealed what Trump told him and other leaders in Europe on Wednesday about his plans for his Alaskan summit with Putin on Friday.

Trump agreed with them that the focus should be on halting the fight first before the full terms of ending the war can be negotiated, Zelensky said.

“All the partners demonstrated one voice, one desire, and one principle,” Zelensky told reporters of the meeting.

“There should be a ceasefire, there should be security guarantees. President Trump said he supports this and spoke about America’s readiness to take part,” he added.
