Nancy Lieberman rips Jeff Teague over Caitlin Clark comments

Women’s basketball legend Nancy Lieberman is tired of the Caitlin Clark slander.

The Hall of Famer ripped into former NBA player Jeff Teague, who said Clark is “good, but not that good” on his podcast in July.

“Jeff, I love you, you weren’t a great player,” Lieberman jabbed on Wednesday’s “3s and Ones” podcast. “You were serviceable. I know you made the All-Star team one time, but if we’re gonna be honest … Caitlin is a great player.”

Lieberman, 67, is one of the most decorated players in women’s hoops history.

A Brooklyn native, she starred in several of the pre-WNBA women’s basketball pro leagues before playing one season for the Phoenix Mercury in 1999.

She led Old Dominion to back-to-back AIAW national championships in 1979 and 1980 before receiving Women’s Professional Basketball League MVP honors with the Dallas Diamonds in 1981, earning the nickname “Lady Magic.”

Teague, who has become a prominent basketball media personality through his podcast, played 12 seasons in the NBA.

He spent his best years as a high-level role player with the Hawks from 2009-16, making his one All-Star appearance — as referenced by Lieberman — during the 2014-15 season.

After his time in Atlanta, Teague also had stints with the Pacers, Timberwolves, Celtics and Bucks.

Clark is having an injury-riddled sophomore season with the Fever, but she still earned an All-Star nod and averages 16.5 points, 8.8 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game.

Fans sounded off on Lieberman’s comments on social media, offering a mixed bag of responses.

“Caitlin Clark is way better than Jeff Teague ever was,” said one X user.

“Clark’s value towards her team and the WNBA as a whole is way higher than Jeff’s value ever been,” wrote another.

Another user disagreed, writing: “Saying Teague was serviceable is beyond disrespectful. The game was different back then plus the NBA is more about roles and often holds people back.”

Former NBA player Michael Beasley, a co-host on “3s and Ones,” is siding with Lieberman.

“Jeff, my guy … you tripping,” Beasley said. “Caitlin’s great.”
