ESPN Strikes A Deal With WWE As New Streaming Service Sets August 21 Launch Date
ESPN is launching a brand new streaming app later this month, where sports fans will be able to tune into live sports programming in addition to the network’s leading studio shows.
Set to launch Aug. 21, the ESPN app will offer “the full suite” of ESPN networks and services to fans ahead of the NFL season. Subscribers will be able to tune into the US Open, the PLL playoffs, the NBA season and more, all on ESPN’s new direct-to-consumer service.
Ahead of its launch, ESPN has also penned a new deal securing the exclusive U.S. rights WWE’s live events, including WrestleMania, SummerSlam, Royal Rumble, Money in the Bank, and more, as well as pre- and post-show events. Select programs will also simulcast on ESPN’s linear platforms.
In addition to ESPN’s library of original and live programming, the ESPN App will also have game stats, betting information, fantasy football and a personalized SportsCenter For You. It will also introduce a multiview feature for customers.
The ESPN App currently has two subscriptions available for fans.
The unlimited plan, which offers 47,000 live events a year in addition to on-demand replays and studio shows, will be available for $29.99 a month of $299.99 a year. Customers can also bundle it with Disney+ and Hulu for $35.99 a month. However, at launch, there will be a special offer for customers to get the Disney+, Hulu and ESPN unlimited bundle for $29.99 a month for the first 12 months.
There is also a select plan available for $11.99 a month. Select plan subscribers will have access to all ESPN+ content and over 32,000 live events a year.
Both plans will include ads during live events and studio shows.
Fans who are already subscribed to ESPN+ have nothing to worry about. Existing ESPN+ customers will be migrated to the new ESPN streaming service on the select plan.
