Donald Trump praises Sydney Sweeney’s American Eagle ad after political party reveal
Once upon a time in Hollywood, President Trump praised Sydney Sweeney.
The 79-year-old gushed over the actress’ controversial American Eagle jeans ad over the weekend after her political party registration was revealed in public voter records.
“She’s a registered Republican?” the “Apprentice” alum asked reporters on Sunday while leaving Allentown, Pa. “Is that right, is Sydney Sweeney [a Republican]?”
The president noted, “You’d be surprised at how many people are Republicans. That’s what I wouldn’t have known.”
“I’m glad you told me that,” Trump continued.
He noted that he “now love[s]” the “Euphoria” star’s ad, insisting, “If Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican, I think her ad is fantastic!”
The “White Lotus” alum ditched her top in the headline-making ad for the brand’s fall 2025 campaign, which came out in July with the tagline “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans.”
The Emmy nominee posed in a pair of pants and a matching denim jacket in the sultry shots.
In a voiceover, Sweeney spoke about genes being passed from parent to offspring to determine traits such as “hair color, personality and even eye color.”
She looked straight at the camera to conclude, “My jeans are blue.”
Social media users pointed out Sweeney’s blond hair and blue eyes while blasting the commercial, likening the ad to “Nazi propaganda” and a “racialized dog whistle.”
“Jesus Christ – this is such a f–ked up campaign,” one wrote via TikTok.
Another quipped, “It’s giving ‘Subtle 1930s Germany.’”
Sweeney has yet to respond to the backlash — or to Doja Cat and Lizzo’s viral spoofs mocking her.
She appeared unbothered attending the “Americana” premiere Sunday evening in a white gown and matching headband.
The previous evening, she was all smiles enjoying a karaoke night with Maude Apatow and Hunter Schafer.
