’90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After?’ Stars Darcey Silva & Georgi Rusev Like Sharing Their “Love Story” With The World: “It’s A Blessing”
Since they met back in 2020, Darcey Silva and Georgi Rusev have been one of the most talked about couples in the 90 Day Fiancé universe. Their relationship was first captured in the inaugural season of Darcey & Stacey, a spinoff series that follows Darcey and her twin sister Stacey as they live their lives and navigate their relationships. Despite a 12-year age gap, communication mishaps, trust issues and a break here and then, Darcey and Georgi tied the knot in 2023. Now, in this season of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After?, the series will follow Darcey and Georgi as the two head back to Georgi’s home country of Bulgaria to visit his parents and the rest of his family.
“He hadn’t been back in 13 years,” said Darcey, when asked how she felt about being the first woman Georgi introduced to his parents. “When I left my home, I was only 16,” added Georgi. “It was an emotional trip for me.” Needless to say, the couple took into consideration the fact that Bulgaria is very different from the United States. While Darcey attempted a “make under” to fit in better with Georgi’s family and community, it was impossible for her to hide who she is. She even got emotional during their first meal with Georgi’s parents. “I wasn’t trying to make anyone uncomfortable,” explained Darcey. “I just wear my heart on my sleeve.” Luckily, Georgi’s family was accepting of their son’s wife. “Everything’s fine now,” assured Georgi.
By now, sharing their life with the series’ adoring fanbase has become routine . “I like sharing my story and my journey because hopefully I can help someone else,” said Darcey, noting that it’s not hard for her to be her “authentic” self on-camera. “I forget the cameras are there sometimes.” For his part, Georgi admits that although he is “never nervous” about sharing their relationship with the world, he does get anxious thinking about what their friends and family have to say. “I get nervous about how the people react, especially the closest people to us,” admitted Georgi. Because their relationship has been documented on reality TV since its inception, Georgi knows that the show is a part of their “love story.” “We want to share that with everybody,” said Georgi.
The two lovebirds came to the Decider studio to talk about the new season, which of the other couples’ stories resonate with them, and more.
DECIDER: Darcey and Georgi, I love seeing you on Happily Ever After because I know you are going to end up happily ever after. Are you ever nervous about opening your lives up to the cameras or is that almost routine by now?
DARCEY SILVA: I enjoy doing it. It’s not hard for me to be raw, real, and authentic on camera. It’s just who I am. I forget the cameras are there sometimes. I like sharing my story and my journey because hopefully I can help someone else. It’s a blessing to be able to film. It’s a form of therapy for me. While watching our relationship on the show can hurt, it has definitely helped us fix things because we can see where we need to change patterns or behaviors.
GEORGI RUSEV: I’m never nervous about sharing our relationship. I get nervous about how the people react, especially the closest people to us like our family and friends. Though, I like sharing our life. That’s our love story. We want to share that with everybody.
Darcey, how does it feel to be the first woman Georgi has ever brought home to his parents?
DS: Yes, I guess I was the winner to go back to Bulgaria to see his family for the first time [laughs]. He hadn’t been back in 13 years.
GR: When I left my home, I was only 16.
DS: It makes sense now that I think about it. You probably didn’t really start dating seriously until you were in your 20s. I heard that his first girlfriend was an older woman.
GR: I was 19 and she was 27 or 28. I had told her I was 24 and had already finished college. She believed me, and we started dating.
DS: Already startin’ with the lies [laughs].
GR: [Laughs] When things got serious, I told her the truth, that I was only 19, and she was so upset. But I’ve always liked women with more experience.
Georgi, I love that we’re going to meet your family in Bulgaria this season. It sounds like Bulgaria has a much more traditional culture than the U.S. Did you take any special considerations for Darcey while planning this trip?
GR: Bulgaria has so many traditions and folklore. I knew Darcey was gonna love it.
DS: It felt like I was in a fairytale. GR: It was interesting to imagine how she going to fit into this different culture. The food was especially a challenge because she’s very specific about the foods. We’re in Bulgaria at some restaurant and she order American or Italian food.
DS: I like my pasta.
GR: It was horrible. I said to her: “We’re in Bulgaria. We don’t cook food like this. We cook traditional Bulgarian food.”
DS: I do love Bulgarian food. I think their traditions are amazing. My daughters are half-Hungarian, so I’m familiar with that culture. I love going to Europe, and I felt at home in Bulgaria. Just some of the food was a little awkward to try. You need an acquired taste for a lot of things.
Darcey, your “make under” is frankly iconic because you are incapable of being anything other than yourself. Did you really think a step down in eyelash size and a shawl were gonna do the trick?
DS: Honestly, the make under was, for me, a make under. I enjoyed wearing those beautiful lashes. They were shorter than what I normally go for. I know that catsuit was a little boobalicious, but it was a compression catsuit. I like a lot of compression when I travel. I was wearing it for the airplane, and I did cover up with the scarf, but I wasn’t planning on wearing it to meet his mom and dad.
I know we’ll see your trip to Bulgaria unfold over the next few episodes, but can you tease what lies ahead for you two?
DS: There’s so much. There’s a lot of emotion and some drama towards the end. You’ll get to know Georgi’s family. You’ll see their reunion and a lot of tender moments between them and us.
GR: It was shocking when you [to Darcey] started crying at that first dinner with my family. That was really shocking for everybody, especially from my parents.
DS: [Laughs] I can’t hold back my tears. I wasn’t trying to make anyone uncomfortable. I just I wear my heart on my sleeve, and they know that now.
GR: Everything’s fine now, but it was an emotional trip for me. I hadn’t seen my sister in 30 years. She has kids now, so I got to meet them for the first time in person.
DS: It was really a beautiful day. I’m excited to watch it back.
Some of these couples are going through it this season. Is there any couple whose struggle you particularly feel for?
DS: I can relate to Tigerlily and Adnan because I dated a guy from Jordan when I lived in Texas in my 20s. They’re newer cast members, and I’m excited to see their journey. She’s older than him, obviously. I know they love each other. They have a child. Adnan seems a little controlling for his age. I feel like he has a little growing up to do.
GR: There are some very interesting couples this season like Kara and Guillermo. It’s sad to see a young family with a young kid going through things.
DS: You can see a lot of love between them. We’re rooting for them.
GR: Also, Gina and Jasmine. I don’t know what to say about them [laughs]. I just need to continue watching them.
According to Google, Bulgaria is just a 10-hour car ride from Moldova. What do you two make of Andrei’s persistent attempts to get Elizabeth to move their family there from Florida? Do you think she would be happy in Moldova?
GR: I understand why Andrei wants to move back home. Moldova is now at a point where it’s growing. There are a lot of opportunities there, especially if you have some money to invest. I hear great stuff about Moldova. Also, his parents are there. It’s good for their kids to spend some time with the other grandparents as well.
DS: They need to make a compromise. Maybe they could live there a few months of the year and find some work opportunities. They have a young growing family, and I think it would be really difficult to take the kids out of their routine and away from the only home they’ve ever known. I think Elizabeth’s heart is in the States. For her to totally move to Moldova and not come back would be a little much.
You know fans love a spinoff series! Darcey, if there was a “90 Day Fiancé: Ultimate Girls Trip,” which ladies of the franchise would you bring with you and where would you go?
DS: I would take Stacey, of course. I just got to meet Nikki Exotica while I was in the city, and she’s very sweet. Yara’s fun. Natalie too. I love me some Natalie! And Jasmine! I think that would be a hit. Maybe we’d go somewhere in Europe, like Monaco. Or maybe somewhere tropical.
Georgi, same-ish question. If there was a “90 Day Fiancé: Ultimate Boys Trip,” which men of the franchise would you bring along with you and where would you go?
GR: Jovi, I would bring. He’s a fun person. Andrei’s cool. I understand him. Many people don’t, but we come from a similar culture. We’re gonna bring Gino so he can have a little fun with us.
Where would you go?
GR: Vegas [Laughs]. Where else?
