Chuck Schumer, Senate Dems waste time

Senate Democrats are throwing a hissy fit for the ages with an unprecedented drive to drag out the confirmations of President Donald Trump’s nominees.

Every new prez must get not just his Cabinet chiefs confirmed, but also hundreds of other top officials across the Executive Branch.

After getting out of committee, these “sub-Cabinet” picks are traditionally OK’d on the Senate floor in batches, often by unanimous consent.

But Dems are instead now insisting on hours of “debate” and a full roll-call vote for every single Trump nominee — making the process so time-consuming that countless federal agencies still lack permanent leadership as acting officials hold down the fort.

This is pure spite: Republicans won the White House and control of Congress fair and square last fall; Democrats just don’t want to honor the election results.

Indeed, the party’s base demands that its reps in Washington do all they can to frustrate the new president’s agenda — no matter what price the country as a whole pays.

No wonder Democrats’ approval ratings are circling the drain.

Dem partisans may feel like they’re “resisting fascism,” but they’re really just defying the democratic process.

Assuming (fingers crossed) that no harm is done because key desks at the Pentagon or State Department are needlessly vacant, this stall won’t change anything in the long run: It’s purely performative, the equivalent of when then-Rep. Jamaal Bowman pulled a fire alarm to delay a vote Dems were sure to lose.

Heck, the real point may be to save Chuck Schumer: Progressives have been howling for the Senate minority leader’s scalp ever since he followed his conscience to avoid a government shutdown a few months back.

It’s pretty sad that Schumer’s reduced to these games just so he can keep trying to protect his party from the consequences of its demented turn to the hard left.

Maybe it’s time to take the risk of facing down the lunatics, Chuck: Appeasing them only makes all Democrats look bad.
