‘WWHL’: Gia Giudice Impresses Andy Cohen By Taking Accountability For Her “Harsh” Portrayal On ‘Next Gen NYC’

As the daughter of Real Housewives of New Jersey legend Teresa Giudice, Gia Giudice has grown up in front of reality TV cameras. However, she isn’t like her mom in all ways, as Andy Cohen pointed out on Tuesday night’s (July 29) episode of Watch What Happens Live.

Gia, along with her Next Gen NYC co-stars Emira D’Spain and Brooks Marks, stopped by the Bravo Clubhouse one week after the finale of their new hit show, which follows a group of Gen Z nepo babies navigating friendships and forming their own legacies in the Big Apple.

Despite the success of the series, Gia told Cohen that she wasn’t thrilled with the way she was portrayed in the debut season.

“I think on Housewives being under my mom’s shadow, it was always about protecting our family and, honestly, just protecting our peace and happiness. Even growing up with everything that my family went through legally, I was always in mom mode and now that’s kind of instilled into my personality,” Gia said, referring to Teresa and Joe Giudice’s prison stints after being convicted of bankruptcy fraud and conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud.

“On Next Gen, I think I need to transition better into being a friend and not always being in that mom mode because I definitely did come off harsh,” she continued. “I definitely came off aggressive and like I always get annoyed at things. That’s just not who I am, so I’m ready to grow and take this experience day by day.”

Gia added, “I think that’s a part of Next Gen, being in our 20s, and growing.”

Meanwhile, Cohen—who has moderated 13 RHONJ reunions with Teresa—told the young podcaster, “Good for you. No slam on your mom but that was more reflective after one season than I’ve maybe ever heard her be. But that’s not a slam on your mom. It’s really not!”

While Gia may be able to take accountability for her actions, she’s still very much like Teresa in other ways. When Decider spoke to Riley Burruss ahead of the Next Gen NYC premiere, she said Gia was “probably” the Bravo kid who’s most similar to her mom.

“I don’t really know her mom that well, but I just feel like from what I’ve seen, I feel they’re both very outspoken,” Burruss said.

Watch What Happens Live airs Sunday through Thursday at 10 p.m. ET on Bravo. New episodes are available to stream the next day on Peacock.
