Go ahead and let the imagination run wild: Cam Skattebo takes a fourth-and-1 handoff near midfield … a massive hole opens on the right side of the line … his right guard has moved a stalwart defensive tackle out of the way …. maybe Daron Payne or Mazi Smith or, best of all, Jalen Carter at least 2 yards backward. 

He is wearing No. 73. 

It is Evan Neal. 

This was the dream first hatched when Joe Schoen made Neal the second pick of his first draft in 2022 — and then shattered across three seasons as Neal, the No. 7 pick in that year’s first round, became a bust bookend for left tackle Andrew Thomas, much to the horror of the organization and Giants fans alike.
