Seth Lugo gets Royals contract extension ahead of MLB trade deadline

Seth Lugo is off the trade market. 

The Royals and the right-hander are finalizing a multi-year contract extension, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported Sunday night. 

Terms of the deal were not immediately made available.

Lugo was set to be one of the best pitchers on the open market this winter when his contract expired and a prime trade target with Thursday’s 6 p.m. deadline quickly approaching, but instead he will remain in Kansas City. 

Lugo is 7-5 this season with a 2.95 ERA and 99 strikeouts.
