Marcus Stroman just isn’t fooling anyone this year.
The Yankees right-hander is getting smacked around when on the mound in 2025, and he’s got a tough task on Thursday night in the Bronx.
Stroman is allowing a whopping 10.24 hits per nine innings through five starts this season, which would be the second-highest rate among qualified MLB pitchers.
Hitters are slashing .290/.371/.526 against him – All-Star-like numbers – while his ERA is sitting at a bloated 7.45.
Perhaps most alarming, Stroman’s strikeouts per nine have dropped to 5.59, which would be a career low.
During his last outing, Stroman was lucky to escape with just three earned runs over five innings against the Mets, pitching through jams while allowing seven hits and a walk.
Stroman will need luck to be on his side once again if he pitches the same way against the Mariners, who have surprisingly been one of the best-hitting teams in baseball this season.

After a team-wide struggle at the plate last season, Seattle’s 111 wRC+ is tied with the Tigers for the sixth-best in baseball this year heading into Wednesday’s play.
The Mariners have feasted this season when they get away from the pitcher-friendly T-Mobile Park, scoring the fifth-most runs in the league on the road.
With the trade deadline approaching and the Yankees’ American League East hopes fading, all eyes will be on Stroman.

Will Brian Cashman need to make a move to add to this rotation?
I’m betting that Thursday night will push him in that direction, at the very least.
