Kate Middleton wears red, Princess Diana’s tiara for Macron state banquet

Kate Middleton cut a regal figure in a sweeping red gown — and paid a sartorial nod to Princess Diana in her iconic tiara — for a state banquet.

In photos obtained by Page Six, the Princess of Wales donned the elegant caped floor length gown while attending the UK soirée in honor of French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte, on Tuesday.

The Princess of Wales accessorized with Greville Chandelier Earrings from the late Queen Elizabeth II’s jewelry collection — and donned the Cambridge Lover’s Knot Tiara, which was famously worn by her late mother-in-law.

She added Princess Diana’s Nigel Milne three-strand pearl bracelet to the ensemble, as well as several distinguished royal badges, including the Royal Order of Queen Elizabeth II and the Royal Family Order of King Charles III.

She styled her brunette locks long and straight and applied a neutral makeup palette for the event.

Middleton’s crimson frock, designed by Sarah Burton for Givenchy, was a fitting choice for the occasion. The British designer — who previously worked at Alexander McQueen and famously designed Middleton’s wedding dress — was recently appointed creative director of the French fashion brand.

Middleton last wore Princess Diana’s favorite pearl and diamond tiara at the annual Diplomatic Corps Reception at Buckingham Palace in December 2023, pairing it with a sparkling light pink Jenny Packham gown and again, the Greville Chandelier Earrings.

Middleton, 43, brought the famed tiara and jeweled earrings out of retirement at the Diplomatic Reception in 2015 — it had previously remained unworn since Princess Diana last donned it at an event in Brazil in 1991.

The mother of three has since worn it for a number of events, including the royal wedding reception of Crown Prince Hussein and Rajwa Al Saif’s in Jordan in summer 2023.

Tuesday’s lavish banquet, held at Windsor Castle, was also attended by her husband, Prince William, 43, Queen Camilla, 77, and King Charles, 76.

Queen Camilla wore an embroidered white gown with diamond and sapphire jewelry, while both Prince William and King Charles donned traditional tuxedos with royal regalia.

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, Prince Edward and Sophie also made an appearance, as did the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and Princess Anne, among other members of the royal family.

The Lover’s Knot Tiara — which has also become a favorite of Middleton’s over the years —  was originally crafted by the House of Garrard in 1914 for Queen Mary from family-owned diamonds and pearls, before being passed down to the late Queen Elizabeth II.

The iconic tiara was gifted to Princess Diana, but returned to Queen Elizabeth following Diana’s divorce from then Prince Charles in 1996.
