‘Thunderbolts’ Comes to Digital, But When Will the ‘Thunderbolts’ Movie Be Streaming on Disney+?
The last movie in Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thunderbolts—or, Thunderbolts*, if you want to be annoying about it—is coming to digital platforms to buy and rent starting tomorrow. Just in time for a Marvel marathon over the long weekend!
Directed by Jake Schreier, with a screenplay written by Eric Pearson and Joanna Calo, Thunderbolts is basically the Suicide Squad of the MCU. Florence Pugh stars as Yelena Belova, aka the adopted sister of Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow. Yelena, a black widow assassin herself, was first introduced in 2021’s Black Widow movie. Now she’s charged with leading a team of antiheroes—Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), John Walker (Wyatt Russell), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), and Red Guardian (David Harbour)—on a dangerous mission that could redeem their less-than-favorable reputations.
Also starring Lewis Pullman, Geraldine Viswanathan, Hannah John-Kamen, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Thunderbolts was well-liked by critics, and earned a solid $381.5 million at the global box office—not Marvel’s best by far, but still making back twice the production budget. No doubt Disney hopes to earn even more money with digital sales and rentals. But before you drop $30 on Thunderbolts, you should know that we expect to see Thunderbolts streaming on Disney+ before the end of the summer.
Where to watch the Thunderbolts movie on streaming:
Beginning on Tuesday, July 1 at 12 a.m. Eastern Time (which is also June 30 at 9 p.m. Pacific Time), Thunderbolts will be available to buy digitally on Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Fandango At Home, and more. The price may vary depending on which platform you use to purchase the film, but on Amazon Prime the movie costs $29.99 to buy, and $24.99 to rent.
Thunderbolts will also be released on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD on July 29. The DVD release will come with deleted scenes, making-of featurettes, cast interviews, a gag reel, audio commentary with director Jake Schreier, and more. (Bonus features may vary, depending on the product and which service you use to purchase the film.)
Thunderbolts is not yet streaming on any subscription streaming services, but we do expect to see Thunderbolts streaming on Disney+ soon.
Disney+ offers a number of subscription options, so you can find the one that works for you. With ads, a subscription costs $9.99/month; without ads, it’s $15.99/month or $159.99/year.
There are also Disney+ bundles with Hulu, Max, and ESPN+, so you can subscribe to up to three services at once and save over 40% every month. The bundles are available in a few different configurations, starting at $10.99/month for Disney+ and Hulu with ads, and going up to $29.99/month for Disney+, Hulu, and Max ad-free.
When will the Thunderbolts movie be streaming on Disney Plus?
Thunderbolts will likely stream on Disney+ in the next month-and-a-half or so, because it is a Disney movie. All the new Disney theatrical movies end up streaming on Disney+, often about four to six months after opening in theaters.
Another recent Disney Marvel movie, Captain America: Brave New World, was released on premium video-on-demand about two months after opening in theaters, and began streaming on Disney+ about three-and-a-half months after opening in theaters. If Thunderbolts follows a similar release strategy, you may see Thunderbolts streaming on Disney+ around mid-August 2025.
But this is all speculation. If you want to see Thunderbolts ASAP, you can buy or rent the movie on digital starting tomorrow.
