Martha Stewart’s makeup artist shares her go-to beauty routine
At 83 years old, Martha Stewart still looks fresh as a daisy.
Whether she’s snapping instantly-viral selfies or covering the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, the ageless icon gets her glam from makeup artist Daisy Toye — and has been for more than 17 years now, ever since a chance meeting brought them together.
“One day [Stewart’s editor-in-chief] called me and was like ‘Daisy, Martha’s makeup artist is not available, can you come and do this photo shoot?’” Toye tells Page Six Style. “I bought all new brushes and makeup.”
Now working with Stewart five days a week, Toye says her life hasn’t been the same since — and neither has the homemaking icon’s makeup routine, which she tells us is constantly evolving.
“A lot of women of a certain age are stuck on their products that they’ve been using … Martha is totally not like that,” the glam pro says. “She’s very open to things that I like to use.”
As for what that includes? Toye says “everybody is always surprised” that it’s a mix of “high and low” finds — including affordable staples like Maybelline’s Volum’ Express The Falsies Mascara, which she says gets “right to the root” of each lash.

Given Stewart “loves a bronzy glow,” the pair also reach for shimmer-packed products like the “classic” Nars Laguna Bronzing Powder, Westman Atelier Sun Tone Bronzing Drops, L’Oréal Paris True Match Lumi Glotion — which Toye’s “obsessed” with layering under foundation — and Armani Beauty Eye Tint Long-Lasting Liquid Eyeshadow.
“She loves gold … she even puts one of the gold eyeshadows on her lips, and it looks fabulous,” Toye says of the latter.
Gold star products also include Clé de Peau Beauté’s The Foundation, which Toye was wearing when she first met Stewart. (“She was like, ‘I like your skin,’ the artist recalls.)

And while Stewart recently made headlines for using a nearly 20-year-old eyeliner — “I don’t know if there’s anything in it, but she loves the brush,” laughs Toye — the dynamic duo’s arsenal also includes more current finds like L’Oréal Paris Infallible Grip Gel Eyeliner Pencils in both black and brown.
“This is not sponsored … I just love their products,” jokes Toye. “Sometimes we’ll use brown if we’re daring and we want a really smoky, dramatic look.”

While she’s done Stewart’s makeup everywhere from the backseat of a car to a moving golf cart outside the Palace of Versailles, Toye tells us some of her favorite makeup moments come from the octogenarian icon’s sultry “impromptu selfies.”
“[We’ll be] out to dinner or something, and I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I love that light on you,’” says Toye, quipping she knows Stewart’s face “better than [her] own.”

She’s picked up plenty of tips from the media mogul over the years, too, from sipping green juice to booking monthly facials and using at-home masks on the regular.

“She’s very diligent about [face] masks at night; she wakes up at 3 o’clock in the morning and she’ll put a mask on,” adds Toye, who swears by the Clé du Peau Beauté Precious Gold Vitality Mask.
“You really do see a difference when you eat the way that she does and [follow] the way she takes care her skin,” she says. “She just takes really good care of herself, so it makes you want to [do the same].”
